Water Treatment

Our Water Treatment Services

Our highly trained engineers work to BSRIA BG29/2012 standards which underline the importance of Water Treatment, Water Testing and System Flushing. Your water systems require regular, careful and professional testing and monitoring to ensure compliance and quality. Failure to maintain your systems can often lead to serious problems including loss of system efficiency, build-up of scale deposits, corrosive water conditions and microbiological growth which can result in higher running costs and risks the development of several possibly fatal diseases such as Legionnaires’ disease in the water systems users.

With our water system quality testing and water treatment commissioning services, we can deliver the essential maintenance service and monitoring that keeps your heating systems, cooling water and various other closed systems healthy and performing at peak efficiency. Our team of professional water treatment and commissioning engineers regularly carry out sample tests on a wide range of water systems. All of our treatments are externally analysed by selection of United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) approved testing and inspection laboratories, guaranteeing standards are always met.

Initial indications and summary reports of chemical conditions can be provided on site after sampling, these will often allow us to quickly identify any issues your water system may have and to work with you to aid and resolve these issues prior to receipt of our UKAS laboratory results.

Closed Circuit Pre-commission Systems Flushing

Pre-commissioning cleaning and dynamic system flushing is an essential process whereby flushing and chemical cleaning agents are used in-conjunction with biocides and inhibitors to BSRIA BG29/2012 standards to flush unwanted debris and remove harmful micro-organisms. These standards ensure installations are cleaned to acceptable limits and ultimately, flushed systems will experience less operating problems and provide a longer life span.

A failure to address this can lead to costly corrosion, leaks, seal failures, mechanical or metallurgical failures and reduction in flowrate and performance while creating the conditions to encourage the growth of micro-organisms such as TVC, Pseudomonas and Legionella.

We are vastly experienced in flushing and water treatment of completely new and existing water systems including biocide washes, fit-out floors where careful control of water chemical and microbiological conditions are essential, especially when integration between existing landlord and current tenant areas are required.

Legionella Risk Assessments & Provision of Building Management Hygiene Log Books

All of our domestic water testing & treatments are subject to industry HSC ACoP L8 (2013) & HSG274 Part 2 assessments. This is to raise awareness and prevent the threat of contamination and the spread of harmful Legionella bacteria. We achieve this through completion of a Legionella Risk Assessment, which contains a thorough test and analysis of your water system followed by detailed recommendations, based on the results.

We also help building landlords meet their legal obligations for domestic water provision, storage, plant and tank checks as well as potable and Legionella sampling.

Provision of documented water management procedures will identify preventative and scheduled works along with client / end user and landlord responsibilities, samples of these Legionella Risk Assessments and Log Books can be provided upon further request via our contact us page.

Pre-Installation Legionella Risk Assessments

Comfort Services Group Ltd can provide Design / Pre-Installation Legionella Risk Assessments. In essence we perform a desktop review to identify any potential areas of concern before the install commences. We have found that performing a risk assessment at the start of the project, identifies non-compliances which could have ended up being on a snagging list causing additional labour and materials cost.

Therefore even if the contract is such that the building management are taking all responsibility for carrying out the Legionella risk assessment and control regime, the company installing the system still has an obligation to identify to the client areas of the system which require ongoing monitoring to control Legionella; and as such have identified that a risk assessment of the designs would then be a good way to do this.

The only caveat to consider is that the assessments will only be as good as the information and drawings provided and these could vary as the project commences. We also need to be clear that this document would not count as the formal risk assessment for the building and once the project is complete a full Legionella risk assessment will still be required.

Chemical Treatment Services

An untreated system can lead to oxygen corrosion and increased levels of suspended solids, poor circulation issues and component blockages, elevated ammoniacal nitrogen levels can cause stress corrosion with can result in cracking of stainless steel, brass and copper pipes and fittings.

These all need to be removed, treated and controlled to enable your systems to perform properly and economically.

Our long lasting chemical treatments allow your system to work effectively by preventing corrosion and microbiological fouling for an extended time period, all of our system flushing is performed to the most recent BSRIA BG29/2012 standards.

We use our own comprehensive range of specifically designed corrosion inhibitor and biocide treatment products which are blended to our own exacting specifications, these combined with a bacterial monitoring regime will ensure that your water systems operate efficiently, economically while being ecologically friendly and providing additional longevity to your system.

Quality Sampling

In line with industry and British standards BS 8552 - 2015, we carry out the sampling and monitoring of water from building services closed systems. This reduces and removes contaminants which prevent your systems operating correctly and efficiently. We use state-of-the-art quality sampling analysis to assure that your system meets the necessary guidelines and quickly identify and resolve any issues in your system.

Chemical de-scaling

Over time scale and calcium deposits build up within a water system, which can lead to poor performance, a drop in cost effectiveness and shortened system life. Yearly internal inspections of pipework and system fittings should be performed and the system de-scaled as required. Systems holding water over 65oC such as boiler cylinders, heating systems and calorifiers also suffer from the build-up of these deposits and scale, which become the ideal breeding ground for micro-organisms such as Legionella when combined with the high water temperature.

We can perform inspections and acid de-scaling on:

  • Boilers & Heating Systems
  • Calorifiers
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Chillers

Sampling & Water Quality Testing

Legionella & Potability

In line with current HSC ACoP L8 (2013) & HSG274 Part 2 Technical Guidance we carry out the sampling, testing and monitoring of hot and cold water from domestic services systems. Various regular checks can be performed to monitor such items as stored water tank temperature and microbiological activity to ensure acceptable water quality standards are maintained for the occupants and other users. Our Legionella sampling services help you to ensure occupants and end users are kept safe from potential Legionella contamination and growth, which in turn can result in the onset of Legionnaires ’ disease and Pontiac Fever.

Closed Systems Monitoring

In line with industry and British standards BS 8552 (2015) we carry out the sampling, testing and monitoring of LTHW systems (Low Temperature Hot Water), Medium Hot Water systems, Condensers and Chilled Water systems. Various regular checks can be performed to ensure the on-going chemical protection of the installation is adequate and microbiological control is maintained.

We use state-of-the-art quality sampling analysis equipment to assure that your water system meets the necessary guidelines, and we can quickly identify and resolve any issues that could be causing water quality to drop below required standards. We have a network of independent UKAS accredited laboratories at our disposal which are utilised for a range of quality sampling analysis, ensuring we provide accurate and reliable results for all of our sampling analysis.

Chlorination and Sterilisation

Chlorination and sterilisation are both essential catalysts for the successful running of a water system and an important prerequisite to initialising new water system installations and maintenance of existing water system services.

Our domestic water treatment processes are carried out inline with current HSC ACoP L8 (2013) & HSG274 Part 2 Technical Guidance which aim is to raise awareness, manage and control the risk of Legionella bacteria growth.

Mains Water Chlorination and swabbing of newly installed pipework can be performed in line with the requirement of your Local Water Authority such as Anglian Water and Thames Water.
